RESEARCH LINES
Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology
This area of concentration is focused on the investigation of the structure and function of the main biological polymers and macromolecules (proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids), alone and when complexed with each other, as well as their involvement in photobiological and microbiological processes. The biophysical and biochemical studies of these biopolymers and their complexation at the molecular level will allow to better understand their mechanisms of action and biological functions, and to evaluate their biotechnological applicability for environmental, health or industrial purposes. These studies involve genetic engineering techniques, synthesis and/or chemical modifications, various spectroscopic and microscopic techniques, and ultimately aims to develop biodevices that could be used as detectors and/or diagnostic in different areas. The faculty has a multidisciplinary profile, consisting of researchers from different fields including physics, chemistry and biology, which interact with each other, as attested by the publications in collaboration.
