RESEARCH LINES

Environmental Monitoring

This area of concentration aims to provide knowledge in life sciences (biophysics, biochemistry, cell biology, morphology, physiology, microbiology, paleontology) and chemistry (analytical, organic and environmental) for environmental assessment and knowledge transfer. This area of concentration aims to use existing organisms, sub-recent and fossils, as well as the evaluation of chemical compounds in different matrices, such as the emission of gases, as environmental change indicators, and the application of microorganisms in wastewater treatment. The devices developed in the biotechnology concentration area are also used to evaluate biological and chemical parameters required in the environmental monitoring. In addition, biotechnological techniques are used in these monitoring assessments. Therefore, this interdisciplinarity results in the integration of different scales of analysis and in situ applications.
